Elizabeth Lorene Thompson was a loving mother, loyal and caring wife and a strong Christian woman. She had a strong impact on everyone she met. Her faith in God and the church helped her overcome difficulties in her life while remaining true to her values. God truly blessed her and she now is with him in heaven.

Living on a farm in her early years Lorene, her sister Vernell and her mother Clarene experienced difficult times. Felton Henry, Lorene’s father, died of typhoid fever and the young girls and mother had to survive during the great depression. They moved to Dallas and Lorene graduated from W. H. Adamson High School where Lorene met her husband Carl whom she married in 1953.

Lorene and Carl settled down in South Oak Cliff. Lorene became a homemaker and had three sons, Curtis, Durwin, and Keith in a little home on Huckleberry Circle. Carl, Lorene and the boys had many great times together traveling on vacations to California, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Washington, Montana, and Arkansas.

Lorene raised her sons in the church. Going to church on Sundays and Wednesdays they were provided with a foundation of faith and God. She remained active in Grace Temple Baptist Church throughout the rest of her life attending church regularly for as long as she was able.

Lorene is survived by three sons, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Carl and Lorene were married for over 50 years. After Carl’s death in 2005 she continued living by herself. Staff members at the various facilities she stayed in felt that Lorene (sometimes called Elizabeth) was a loving and caring woman; making everyone around her feel better.

Mom (as her children called her) died of Parkinson’s disease on June 11, 2017 at Parkview Heathcare Community. She was 87 years old. Mom was a woman of strong faith that will be missed by everyone. But we all know she is in a better place with Jesus and Carl in heaven.
