Elizabeth Mercer Ferguson, age 93, died on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Pretty Pond Manor, Assisted Living Facility in Zephyrhills, FL. Elizabeth was born on January 13, 1924, in Lumberton, Roberson County, NC, to the late Wightmon & Bertha (Tyner) Rogers and she was the eldest of eleven children. Elizabeth married her high school sweetheart Odell Mercer, and during WWII Odell went into the service, and Elizabeth moved to Buffalo, NY to work in a factory assembling airplane parts, as part of the war efforts. After the war, both returned to Lumberton, NC, and she began working in the local grocery, then as a dental assistant and then she began working for the local bank. Elizabeth had found her calling and retired as the Branch Manager in the mid-eighties. After Odell and Elizabeth retired, they moved to Spring Hill to be closer to family. Elizabeth was an avid bowler, belonged to a league and won many trophies and honors. Elizabeth ‘s favorite pastimes found her decorating her home, cooking, sewing, and she enjoyed making floral arrangements of both silk and real flowers. Elizabeth is sadly preceded in death by her parents; husbands; Odell Mercer and Ray Ferguson. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Linda Gardner of Wesley Chapel, FL her Granddaughter, Kimberley De La Cerda of Gainesville, FL her grandson, Joshua Wilkins of Saint Petersburg, FL great grandson, Zachary Bennett of Sarasota, FL great granddaughter, Brittany Bennett of Gainesville, FL, and brothers, Fred Rogers of Charleston, West Virginia, Neil Rogers, of Lumberton, North Carolina, and James Rogers, of Orange Park, Florida. Elizabeth’s family and friends will gather at the Turner Funeral Home, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609 on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 12:30 – 1:15 pm. The funeral service will follow at the chapel at 1:15 pm and services will conclude at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens with the committal service at 2 pm.
