Elizabeth Tilden Kingsbury Ripley (Betty), 102, passed away in her sleep at Langdon Place of Keene on March 14, 2017. She was the daughter of Robert T. and Helen P. Kingsbury.

Betty was a lifelong resident of the Keene area. She attended schools in Keene and graduated from Keene High School in 1932. After attending Martha Washington Seminary in Washington, DC for one year, she furthered her education at Smith College, graduating in 1937. At Smith, she majored in French and studied in Paris for her junior year.

Betty worked for two years at National Grange Mutual Liability Insurance Company until her marriage, at which time she was required to depart. In 1939 , she married F. Fuller Ripley, of Troy Mills, Inc., and lived in Troy or Keene the rest of her life.

In addition to raising four children, Betty was involved in many community activities, including her church, Girl Scouts, and Dollars for Scholars. She was a member of the Weaver's Guild of New Hampshire, attaining the level of Journeyman Weaver. She was a founding member of the Keene Racquet Club and played tennis into her 90's. She and Fuller were strong supporters of the Keene Country Club and of the Granite Lake Association, for which she served as a Lake Host for many summers.

Betty was a member of the New Hampshire Smith College Club and worked zealously for its scholarship fund. In 1963, a Kingsbury Scholarship Fund was established for Smith College students from Keene or throughout New Hampshire. Furthermore, she was on the Smith Class of '37 Reunion Committee and was a class officer.

One of Betty's last projects was supporting the educational opportunities offered by The Historical Society of Cheshire County, which has an ambitious program that connects youth and families to the rich cultural heritage of Cheshire County.

Betty loved the outdoors and enjoyed swimming, sailing, skiing and ice skating, as well as tennis. She was an avid gardener; flowers and vegetables thrived under her care. Her neighbors at Langdon Place appreciated her colorful flowers every summer and recognized her on her daily walks until shortly before her passing.

She is survived by her four children: Judith R. Walton and her husband, Tom, of Queensbury, NY; Rachel R. Roach of Palmdale, CA; Barrett F. Ripley and his wife, Carole, of Newport, RI; and Sally F. Ripley of Munsonville, NH; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by Rip, her husband of 68 years, and her brothers, George and Put Kingsbury.

There are no calling hours and a celebration of her life will be held this summer in Munsonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert T. and Helen P. Kingsbury Legacy Fund at the Historical Society of Cheshire County or to The Smith Fund, Smith College, Northampton, MA.
