.On May 17, 2017, Ella Williamson of Spring Arbor, MI passed away peacefully at the age of 90 under the loving attentiveness and care of her daughter, Susan DeMay, with help from husband Kevin and daughter Angela. The family would like to thank the excellent nurses and staff of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
Ella was born on February 20, 1927, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles Colwell Wilson and Ethel E. (Mains) Wilson Potter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Bill Potter; husband, David Robert Williamson; sisters, Marion Burns and Neoma and Georgetta Wilson; brother, Douglas Wilson, and grandson, David. She is survived by four children: Virginia (David) Marquart of Spring Arbor, MI; Robert (Lynda) Williamson of Boulder City, NV; Charles Williamson of East Lansing, MI; and Susan (Kevin) DeMay of Jackson, MI; eight grandchildren: Ricanne Courtney, Luke, Angela, and Sarah DeMay, Elizabeth and Joel Marquart, Christopher and Daniel Williamson; and six great-grandchildren: Paige, Chase, Parker, Alice, Chancellor, and Sophia.
She graduated from Spring Arbor High School in 1944 and studied at Jackson Business University. She then worked at Sparks Industries in manufacturing for military contracts. Ella was married to David Robert Williamson on May 24, 1947. They lived most of their married life in Spring Arbor, Michigan. She and Dave partnered in several of their own businesses. Among them were a delivery service for Field's Department Store and print shops such as Quickprint and The Copy Center.
Ella enjoyed music, picnics, travel, camping, bowling, golf, laughing and telling jokes, journaling and photo albums. She knew all the verses of hymns, popular songs from the thirties and forties, and show tune lyrics. She loved to spend time on the raft that her husband built. She could tell history of Spring Arbor back to 1940. She loved cooking, hosting guests, and entertaining her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Together, she and Dave created many wonderful, cherished memories.
A celebration of Ella's life will be held Tuesday, May 23rd, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church, 120 E. Main Street, Spring Arbor, MI. Pastor Mark Van Valin will be officiating, assisted by Pastor Chuck Husted. Interment will follow at Spring Arbor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to International Child Care Ministries 770 N. High School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46214.
Family will greet friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
