Ellen Marie Morris Tuten, wife of James C. Tuten, Sr., of Goose Creek entered into eternal rest on the morning of July 26, 2017. A native of North Charleston, Ellen was the daughter of the late Herbert M. and Macie H. Morris of North Charleston and the daughter-in-law of the late William W. Tuten and Myrl Antley Tuten of Mt. Pleasant. A graduate of North Charleston High School and Conede Business College, Ellen went on to work for the Commissioners of Public Works and Hill-Rom.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, James (Jamie) C. Tuten, Jr. and his wife Julie of Summerville, her sister DeeDee M. Betsill of Atlanta and brother Herbert (Herby) M. Morris, III, and his wife, Vickie of Summerville. Ellen was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda M. Garris of North Charleston. Ellen loved her sisters and brother with all her heart and loved making memories with them through the years. Ellen is survived by several nieces and nephews in Charleston and Atlanta.

Ellen has two grandsons, Jesse Martin Tuten and Justin Carlisle Tuten of Summerville. When each of them were born, they gave her new meaning to life and so much love in return. They became her “angels” and the “lights of her life”!

Ellen had a dog named Snowball who passed away in June of 2005. Her heart never healed from this great loss and she always looked forward to seeing him again.

Ellen has a niece, Debbie Betsill Campbell of Atlanta. Life was always better because of Debbie and Ellen’s lifelong friend, Catherine Driggers Miller and sister-in-law Nancy Tuten Rourk.

An avid “Elvis” fan, Ellen wants everyone to continue on with their lives with a song in their heart and a smile every time they hear an Elvis song.

Ellen was a member of First Baptist Church of Goose Creek and expressed her wish that donations be made to the church, to the American Diabetes Association or to the Cerebral Palsy Association. A diabetic herself, Ellen always had the loving support of her husband Jimmy and her son Jamie. They made having the disease a lot easier for her to manage.

Services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017, 3:00pm in the chapel of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends the same day, from 11:00am-2:00pm before the service.
