Emily Eloise Cook Parsons, age 81, passed from this earthly life into the glory of heaven on Monday, January 1, 2018. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God's plan, and the love and prayer of family and friends carried her through a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Even in this, she truly had the most upbeat spirit and engaging smile. Eloise is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Gene Parsons and siblings Jewel Smith (sister), and James H. Cook Jr. (brother). Eloise is survived by her sister Elaine Parson; children, Debbie Parsons (Joseph) Connell, Carol Crossley, Tom Parsons Jr.; grandchildren Cody Crossley, Sarah (Joe) Evers, Wes (Stephanie) Crossley, and Kate Connell; great grandchildren Daniel Evers, Wes Crossley, Kyhli Ballenger, and Ivori Crossley. Plus, many loving nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Pine Level, Al., Eloise then moved to Montgomery. As a Montgomery resident, she was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and then more recently Whitfield United Methodist Church. A highlight of her week was always the Tuesday Happy Club Bible Study with dear friends, and her Sunday school class. Her dedication to family was inspiring. While working outside the home, she (at different times) cared for her mother, Ilda Mae Cook, grandsons Cody and Wes, and great grandson Wes. Eloise loved her flowers and her yard, and would remark to doctors and staff that she had to "get out there and get those weeds pulled." Yard sales and consignments were irresistible with many bargains shared with the family. Her Thanksgiving dressing and Christmas divinity are legendary in the family as well. She brightened the days of many customers as a First Alabama/Regions employee until retirement.
A visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday, January 8, 2017 from 1:00-2:00PM, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 2:00PM. Burial will follow at Greenwood Serenity Gardens.
Many thanks to the UAB GYN oncology medical staff, Cherry Harris, and our angel cousin Linda Campbell in this journey.
