Emery Howard "Bud" Tindell, of Chattanooga, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama but Chattanooga was his home for most of his life. He graduated from Tyner High School in 1944. Bud served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1947, then served a second tour from 1951 to 1952 on his beloved battleship, the USS New Jersey.
Over the years, he worked at J. Telford Freeman, Power Brake and Supply Company, Wheels and Brakes, and Lee Smith.
He led his family to join Silverdale Baptist Church in 1955, and has served his Lord in many ways over the last 60 years. He has served as deacon, Sunday School and Training Union leader, bus driver, vacation bible school worker, but his real passion was for church music. During the 1950's, he began leading the choir at Silverdale Baptist Church, and later led the music ministry serving faithfully for over 30 years. After retirement, he also led music at East Brainerd Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery Cleo and Annie Lou Tindell, and a sister, Ruth Tindell.
Bud is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Esther Loreen Tindell, a son, George "Butch" (Theresa) Tindell of Chattanooga, TN, a daughter, Janice (Mike) Cate, of Ooltewah, TN, a sister, Louise Peckham of Columbus, GA, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a nephew.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 8, at 10:00 am, at Silverdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am and immediately following the service. A family graveside service will be held at the Tyner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the Silverdale Baptist Library Fund, 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421 and to Gideons International, Chattanooga NE Camp, P. O. Box 16041, Chattanooga, TN 37416
