Emil Harvey Campbell, 93, died April 13, 2017, in Kansas City, MO. Emil was born Sept. 16, 1923, in White Cloud, KS, raised on the Ioway Tribe reservation. He moved to Lawrence to attend Haskell in 1936, before joining the Army to serve during WWII from July '43-Jan. '46. Emil was a lifelong member of the American Legion and past Commander of Conboy-Nichols Post 340. He was a creator and a craftsman, both at work and at home. He met the love of his life, Mary Lee, at a dance and danced through 73 beautiful years together. He believed in hard work, ingenuity, and making friends. His family and friends will remember lessons in camping, fishing, gardening, caring for animals, and storytelling. Emil is survived by his daughter Billie Exposito (Chris); grandchildren: Phillip Pursel, Amie Smith (BJ), Angela Strohm (Brian) and Anthony Exposito; great grandchildren: Sydney Pursel, Ian Pursel (Heather), Lillie Smith, Lola Strohm and Scarlett Strohm; great-great grandchild: Violet Pursel.
