Emily Ruth LeClair passed from this earth on Friday, March 31, 2017.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at Saint John's United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Emily Ruth was born in Rocky Mount, NC July 28, 1928 the daughter of the late David and Arline Hamlet.
Emily Ruth was the seventh daughter of a family of eight girls. She was raised on farm with no electricity or indoor plumbing and attended school in Red Oak, NC. The family moved to Greensboro when she was 12 years old and graduated from McLeansville High School.
Emily Ruth enjoyed reading a good book, traveling, music and loved dancing where she earned her nickname "Boots".
As a young lady, she worked several jobs including a school bus driver. She then went to work as a telephone operator and promoted to Operations Manager with A T & T and retired after 31 years of service.
Emily Ruth met her husband of 57 years, Harold "Kansas" LeClair (deceased), while he was serving in the Air Force stationed at ORD in Greensboro. They had five children, Roberta Ann "Robin" LeClair Langford (deceased), Candace LeClair Dolan (Thomas), Harold "Bobby" LeClair Jr., Paul "Marty" LeClair (Janice), and Edward "Eddie" LeClair (Paola). She also leaves behind her sister, Erma Jean Mundy (Gerry), six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Emily Ruth has also joined other family members with our heavenly Father who preceded her in death; her sisters, Evelyn, Lee, Edith, Ann, Ruby and Rachael; and her grandchild, Allen Lane.
Mrs. LeClair was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she was active with the Methodist Women Committee. Emily Ruth previously attended Asbury United Methodist Church where she held the position of Mission Chair President and made several missionary trips across the country and Haiti. She also sang in the church choir and several years sang with the Messiah Choir in Greensboro during the Christmas Holidays.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, 12:30 until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1304 Merritt Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.
