Erma Dean Gilbert, 87, passed away of natural causes at her home on August 1, 2016. A longtime resident of Boise, she had recently relocated to Caldwell to be nearer to her daughters.

Born on August 29, 1928, to Dillard and Mentie Williams in Heavener, OK, Erma was raised on a farm in the depression-era. She later made the rise to class valedictorian.

Erma raised three daughters primarily on her own in Boise, Idaho. Having a family to provide for, Erma's working years included employment at the Ada County Sheriff's Department where she became the first female Head of the Civil Department. 20 years later she would retire from her service to the State of Idaho. Despite her success in the workforce, Erma's greatest achievement was being a devoted mother and raising her three beautiful and successful daughters in whom she instilled her incredible sense of personal responsibility and work ethic.

In retirement, Erma's love for learning was regularly on display in three of her favorite hobbies: reading, solving daily crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. And while she also enjoyed bowling and walking her dog, Abby, her truest joy was found in her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her great-granddaughter, Ivy, with whom she shared a special connection.

Erma was a much-loved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. All who were close to her have been touched by her life and are saddened at her passing. A faithful Christian, and long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is at peace. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. She is survived by her loving family including three sisters and one brother, her daughters Cindy (Will) Anderson, Gail (Ed) Thrift, Sheila (Dennis) Combs, her grandchildren Jake (Kim) Holloway, Kyla (Josh) Westerberg, Katie Combs, and her two great-granddaughters, Hailey Holloway and Ivy Westerberg.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be warmly welcomed by Calvary Baptist Church (911 S. Cole Boise ID 83709).
