Ernest Gayle Blunk, age 82 of Kansas City, MO, passed away on February 28, 2017, at his home from natural causes. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Virginia Lee Blunk, on February 7, 2012. He and Virginia became neighbors when their parents moved their families to 58th Terrace in Kansas City, MO and they attended Southeast High School together. They married on October, 9, 1953 and always remained in Kansas City, and together they raised three children. A celebration of their lives will beheld Monday, March 6, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Gayle was born April 1, 1934, in Brunswick, MO. Virginia was born February 24, 1934 in Carthage, MO. Gayle retired from Manor Bakery and Virginia was a homemaker. Both he and Virginia were avid sports fans who enjoyed watching dual TV’s. Nascar and basketball were his favorites and she did not miss a Royal’s or Chief’s game. They were both very good bowlers and bowled on various leagues throughout the metro area. Gayle was a loving brother, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He loved to talk to everyone he met and he always had a story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 59 years, Virginia Lee. He is survived by two sisters, Donna Slavens of Overland Park, KS, Sandy Winegar of Montana and Terry Blunk of Overland Park, KS, his son Jerry (Pamela) Blunk of Kansas City, MO, his daughter Deanna (Mike )Leslie of Lee’s Summit, MO, his daughter Laurie (Mike) Mowrey of Raytown, MO, nine grand children, eleven great-grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews.
