Ernest (Ernie) H. Edgerly, 79, of Old Lyme, CT passed away at home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 after a brief illness. His wife and children were by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Narda Edgerly, son David Edgerly (wife Dora Edgerly) of Derby, CT, daughter Debora Edgerly of Rockville, MD, daughter Susan O'Shea and grandchildren Nicholas and Shannon O'Shea of Trumbull, CT, brother William Edgerly of Middlefield, CT and several nieces and nephews.

He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to the late Audrey (Bryant) and Donald Edgerly. He was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy (1955). He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 and was stationed in Korea. He graduated from University of New Haven in 1969.

Ernie started his professional career at U.S. Motors in Milford, CT. Ernie later worked at Baldor Electric in New Milford, CT and then Fort Smith, AR as a Product Manager for their small motor and geared products. Ernie oversaw the redesign and modernization of many products with great success. Ernie was admired for his technical expertise and creativity, He was respected by all that knew him. He retired in 1999 and relocated to Old Lyme, CT.

During his retirement, Ernie enjoyed his hobbies of wood carving and fishing in Old Lyme, CT in the summer and Port Charlotte, FL in the winter. Ernie belonged to several organizations such as American Legion, Moose, Elks, and Mystic Carving Club.

His family remembers him most for his quiet ways of showing his love, kindness and support and knows that he will be in our hearts forever.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday October 5th, 2016 from 10am-12pm at Swan Funeral Home in Old Saybrook, CT. A prayer service will be held at 11:30am.
