Genii Williams died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, December 30, 2017.

Genii was a kind, gentle, and curious soul. She only saw the good in people and in life. She was quick to make new friends, loyal to the old, and always the first to offer help to anyone in need.

With all her many interests, she always considered herself to be a dancer first. She was an avid contradancer and a charter member of the Court Square Dancers.

She studied theater at Western Carolina University. Her first job was at the Albemarle Playhouse where she designed costumes, sets and lighting. After the Playhouse closed, she continued designing costumes for numerous amateur productions at Charlottesville Light Opera, ACT I, the Four County Players, and Live Arts.

In addition to costumes, Genii loved anything fiber or fabric. She was a member of the Charlottesville Fiber Arts Guild and the Albemarle Handweavers Guild.

Genii played with the Isenfir chapter of the SCA where she was able to combine her loves: theater, fabric and costumes, and dancing.

As I write this, I finally realized the full extent of Genii’s tree of friends. In addition to those mentioned above, another large branch are the friends all around the world that she made through the UVa International Center.

Later in life, after the joy of dancing was taken from her by Huntington’s Disease, Genii and Tim enjoyed traveling to study nature and to learn the culture and crafts of the many and varied tribes of Native Americans.

Genii and Tim were one, and she will be sorely missed.

Farewell, Tim

Genii is survived by Tim, her companion and husband of 40 years, her daughter Phoebe, her son Jeremy and his wife Heather, her sister Margaret and her husband Gerry Hunsucker, and brother Tom and his wife Vicki Jennings.

No services have been planned at this time.
