Eva Lea Barclay, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at 11:49 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in her home, following an illness.
She was born to the late Heenan and Irene (Rosselott) Carter in Walnut Ridge, AR, and has lived in South Bend since 1951, coming from Arkansas. Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Susan Barclay; two sisters, Naomi Thomas; Jackie Carpenter; and one brother, Herman Carter.
Eva Lea retired in 1991 from Nyloncraft, Inc. in Mishawaka, IN, after working 17 years as an Inspector.
On July 30, 1943, as Eva Lea Carter, she married John J. Barclay in Arkansas. He passed away on December 4, 2002.
Eva Lea is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis (Larry) Katona of Baldwin, MI; Caroline (William) Singleton of South Bend, IN; three sons, Johnny Barclay of South Bend, IN; Roger (Charlotte) Barclay of South Bend, IN; Michael Barclay of South Bend, IN; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Jim Carpenter of South Bend, IN.
Eva Lea was a member of V.F.W. Post # 9820 and American Legion Post #284. She loved to go fishing; and played darts until the age of 85. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Patty Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
