Evelyn Lea Brantner, 80
Sept. 1 , 1934 – March 26, 2015
Harlan, IA. - Evelyn Lea Brantner was born on Sept. 1, 1934 to Gordon and Ruth (Banner) Hennen in Sullivan County, Missouri near Milan. She was the youngest of three children, after Cathleen (Shoop) and Harold L. Hennen. Her father farmed until 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. He was killed in action March 12, 1945 and is buried in Belgium. Her father was awarded five Purple Heart citations during his WWII service. Evelyn grew up in Green City, Missouri where she attended the Methodist Church and was baptized there in 1952. She attended school in Green City and graduated from Green City High School in 1952.
Oct. 31, 1953 Evelyn was united in marriage to Alvin Dane Brantner at the Methodist Parsonage in Kirksville, Missouri. There were four children born to this union: James, Michael, Anthony, and Bryan. Al and Evelyn moved to Kansas City, MO. After Al passed she moved back to her hometown of Green City, MO. She then moved to Tennant, IA. to live with James and Betty. Eventually, she moved to Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, IA. Evelyn was devoted to raising and caring for her family, serving God, and serving others. She worked part time in the school cafeteria when her children were in school. Later, she worked as a dietitian and Level 1 medication aide in various health care settings.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Ruth; sister Cathleen; brother Harold Lloyd; husband Alvin Dane; son Anthony Lee and grandson Edward W. Brantner. She is survived by sons James (Betty) of Tennant, IA. Michael of Olathe, KS. and Bryan of Orrick, MO.; grandchildren Chad of Raytown, MO., Christina of Overland Park, KS., Mathew of Bend, OR., Jessica of Orrick, MO, Jonanthan (Shantelle) of Harlan, IA, and greatgrandchildren Ella and Ezekial of Orrick, MO.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City, MO. Burial will follow at the Baker Cemetery, South of Green City. Memorial donations can be sent to Myrtue Medical Center Hospice, 1213 Garfield Ave., Harlan, IA. 51537.
