Evelyn Lorenz of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Evelyn was born in Toledo, Ohio, to William and Edith Hardinger on August 22, 1929. Known to all as Evie, she and her sister, Fran, were raised by foster parents, Joseph and Hazel Dreps.
Evie met Donald Lorenz at the Rollercade in West Toledo and they were married on February 26, 1949. Together they raised 5 wonderful children. She was employed with Shordt Janitorial Services, Libbey Glass, and Miracle Mile. She was an avid bowler and card player. She will be remembered for hosting hundreds of family picnics, late night card games ("not a single wild card"), home cooked meals where no one ever ever left the table hungry, irresistible Christmas cookies, love for the casino, and her ability to never forget a date. A birthday card was never late! We will all remember her flip of a wrist, with a slight sigh, and saying "Oh Geez!" We will never forget your beautiful smile and how you brought our family together. You will be loved always and forever.
Evie is survived by sons; James (Betty), Terry, William, Michael, daughter Peggy (Doren Smith) Leathers; sister, Francis Weills (Toledo); sister-in-law, Thelma Hosea (Gainesville, TX); 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Lorenz; parents, William and Edith Hardinger and Joseph and Hazel Dreps; brothers, Guerman, Donald and Gerald Hodgson; and sister, Charlene (Dreps) Halsey. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home at 3219 Tremainsville Rd, Toledo, OH. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. The burial will immediately follow the service at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Evelyn's family would like to say "Thank You" to the staff at UTMC 2nd floor (intensive care unit) for the great care of their Mom.
