Departed this life on March 4, 2017. Evelyn was born on April 9, 1931 to Eugene and Mary Lou Williams, one of six brothers and sisters. Evelyn was a twin whose brother unfortunately did not survive birth. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Willie E Thorpe, and all of her siblings, Gloria F. Connor, Barbara J. Scott, Helen W. Broadhurst, Raymond Williams and Carolyn W. Horton. Evelyn is survived by three children, Barrington S. Williams, Michael E. Williams, and Evelyn D. Thorpe, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evelyn was raised and educated in Washington, DC. She spent most of her working years as a waitress in cafes or working lunch counters. In 1964 she moved her family to Boston, Massachusetts looking to make a fresh start. She was employed for many years as a cook at University Hospital. In 1972 she moved back to Washington, DC with her daughter Evelyn and son Barrington. She spent many years at 'Mayfair' and made many friends. She eventually retired and moved to Woodbridge Virginia, where she lived until she entered the nursing home. Evelyn lived in three different nursing homes over the years but her last residence seemed to give her a particular sense of belonging. The Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville showed great attention to her needs and even though she was baptized at Israel Baptist church on Washington DC, she went to mass every morning without fail. The last few years of her life have been difficult for the family, but she was always well taken care of at Sacred Heart. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Evelyn's name to an Alzheimer's foundation of your choice. And remember, cherish your loved ones while they are here.
