Frederick Sterling Davis IV, 54, of Raleigh, died Friday, June 16, 2017 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Sterling was born September 7, 1962, in Germany to the late Dr. F. Sterling Davis, Jr. and Mrs. Sylvia Atwell Davis of Richmond, Virginia. Sterling was predeceased by his parents and nephew Collin Thomas McNamara.

Sterling is survived by his sisters, Cathleen Davis Smith and her husband Randy of Richmond, and Mary Deane Davis and her wife, Linda Kennedy of Atlanta. Sterling is also survived by his nieces, Carter McNamara, Campbell McNamara, nephews Conner McNamara, Chip McNamara, uncle Rick Davis, aunts, Sue Davis, Barbara Davis, cousins, Rick Davis, Jeff Davis, Jason Davis.

Originally from Richmond, Sterling graduated from St. Christopher's School in 1981 where he made many lifelong friends. Sterling spent his high school years excelling in athletics, especially wrestling where he was team captain and prep league champion in his weight class. After obtaining a BA degree from NC State, he graduated from Campbell University with his MBA. Sterling continued to remain in Raleigh.

Sterling was loved by many. If you were a friend of Sterling's, then you were always his friend. He was also known as the "THE MAYOR OF GEORGETOWN." Sterling loved to make people laugh. At Christmas, he enjoyed being "THE ELF" by spreading joy not only to children but also adults. Sterling's passion for photography was evident at any social gathering. His 35mm camera was an obvious extension of his wardrobe.

Sterling loved his Wolfpack, his Siamese cats, and cooking. He was famous for his crab cakes and other recipes of his Mom's. Sterling also was known to carry dog treats in his pockets for the neighborhood dogs. His life was so full of friends who loved him.

This world lost a kind soul and tender heart. Sterling will always be missed.

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Sterling's life, Thursday, June 22, from 6-8pm at the Georgetown North Pool 3729 Yorktown Place, Raleigh, NC 27609.

A service and celebration of his life will also be held in Richmond, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Discovery United Methodist Church, 13000 Gayton Rd, Henrico, VA 23233.
