Fay C. Shibley, Jr., 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Monday, September 26, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South with Kevin Kennedy officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Allan Moffett, Shannon Moffett, J.T. Augeri, Cody Martin, Shea Baucom, and David Atkins. Honorary pallbearers are Monty Moffett, Jason Koch, and Zane Black.
Fay was born in Van Buren, Arkansas on December 10, 1921 to Fay and Grace Shibley, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was a World War II Veteran. Fay married Naomi Atkins of Abilene on October 3, 1943. Following his release from the service, Fay and Naomi made their home in Abilene where they raised three daughters and enjoyed 73 blessed years together. Fay worked at Mrs. Baird's Bakery for 20 years and was also employed by Timex before he and Naomi opened Shibley's Day Care. They touched the hearts of countless children in Abilene for 18 years before their retirement. Fay enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, traveling in their RV and relaxing outdoors.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four siblings; and his daughter, Pat Moffett. Survivors include his loving wife, Naomi Shibley; daughter Shirley Vaughn (Larry) of Abilene; daughter, Betty Augeri (Joe) of Arlington, TX; sister, Joyce Core (Danny) of Paris, AR; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
