Rev. Finley Jonah McCoury, 88, of Hildebran, went to his Heavenly Home on Monday December 28, 2020 at Carolina Rehab after a period of declining health.
Rev. McCoury was born April 26, 1932 in Avery County a son of the late William Jefferson and Lissie Cornett McCoury. Finley loved the Lord and proved it by being a pastor for over sixty years. He was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Institute and served churches in Avery , Burke and surrounding counties.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Townsend McCoury.
Surviving are his sons, James McCoury and wife Judy of Hildebran and Bruce McCoury of Hickory. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bryan McCoury, Denise Ballard, Christopher Smith, great-grandchildren, Kasey, Kate, Palmer, C.J., Nolan, Nixyn; brother, Richard Jones and wife Dianne of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for the family of Rev. Finley McCoury will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday January 3, 2021 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Services with Rev. James McCoury officiating. A public Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.
Rev. McCoury will lie in state Sunday from 12 until 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
