Florence Massa, 88, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017. She was born in Jersey City to the late Vito and Philomena (Lombardo) Carbutti. Florence lived in Holiday City, Toms River from 1988 to present.

She is survived by her children Dr. Mary Massa, Vito and Carol Massa, and Nicholas and Carol Massa; her grandchildren Walter and Hally Barr, Luke Barr and Dr. Bridget Whitehead, Dr. Christopher and Kate Massa, Lauren, Amy, Nicholas, and Christina Massa and great-grand children Anna and Emma Massa. She is also loved by many nieces and nephews and her beloved brothers and sisters in law, Patrick Massa, Irene Massa, Dr. Thomas and Nicol Massa, Nicholas and Linda Massa, and Theresa Massa and the late Anthony Massa.

To know Florence, was to love her. She was kind and compassionate, never having a bad word to say about any one. She was the model of strength and courage to her family through many difficult times and was always available to listen and empathize with those needing support and encouragement. Asking for little for herself, her greatest joys were helping her children to become responsible and capable adults and showering her grandchildren and great grandchildren with love. Florence was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Jersey City and St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River.

The family wishes to thank Doris, Florence's live in caretaker, for 17 months of devoted service, compassion and companionship.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-7 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday 10:30 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
