Johnson, Frances Barnes, 90, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 9:30a.m. - 10:30a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A service of celebration will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery following the services. Frances was born in Lafayette, AL to Odessa MacEachern and Joseph Cotton Barnes. Franklin D. Roosevelt was president during all 12 years of her education. She was an upper classman in high school during World War II. All students were given a government exam in order to work at Maxwell AFB. Since she made the highest grade at her school, she was offered a job immediately after high school graduation. She worked there until the war ended. She next worked as executive secretary and office manager for Ray Brooks Machinery Company until her retirement.

She was a devoted member of Capitol Heights UMC for 70 years where she served as chairperson of the Administrative Council and chairperson of the Pastor/Parish committee. She cooked Wednesday night dinners for many years and was also an enthusiastic choir member for 65 years. She was president of the Seniors Groups (the CHUMS) for 10 years. She was currently a member of Aldersgate UMC where she was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Ulay Walker Johnson and her great granddaughter, Bailey Smith. Frances is survived by her nieces, Sandra Sims (Stan) of Birmingham, Diana Renfroe (Traylor) of Grassy, NC, Jodi Harris of Opelika, Jennifer Williams (Sonny) of Chesapeake, VA; nephew Bill Benthall of Williamsburg, VA; stepdaughters, Donna Reed (Clurin) of Prattville; Brenda Titus (Richard) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Laura Nell Morrow (Paul) of Dallas, TX, Amy Stucky (Fred) of Huntsville, AL, and Julie Smith (Stephen) of Brandon, MS; and great grandchildren, Caroline, Margaret, and Grace Stucky; Austin, Emily, and Mack Morrrow; and Sawyer Smith.
