Born August 29th, 1938 in Charleston, South Carolina to George Leon Pye Sr. and Ellen Lorraine Francis Pye. Growing up as the eldest of eight children, she was a leader from childhood. Frances graduated from Bishop England High School in 1957 followed by attending Palmer Business College. In 1958, Frances began the next chapter in her life by eloping with Alfred Brewer who captured her heart from the moment they met. Together, over the next years, they had three children, Thea Anne, Allison and John. During her life, Frances was a part of many professions including secretary for Divine Redeemer Church and School, front desk associate at Children’s Nook Daycare, and greeter/information specialist at Berkley County Government.

Throughout her life, Frances had an impact on numerous organizations such as Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Charleston Elks Lodge, and the Florence Crittenden Home. She was a champion for children and education, serving as the Booster Club President for the Hanahan High School Hawks and lobbying throughout the state for the rights of the learning disabled. Frances rose to greatness through her endeavors, reaching far beyond her local community as a member of Berkeley County School Board for 16 years. She served as Chairman of the Board and eventually became President of the South Carolina School Boards Association.

Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly on July 17th. While her voice may no longer be heard, the voices of those she inspired and influenced will undoubtedly echo for years to come.
