Francis Allen Calhoun “Bo” transitioned in Clearwater, FL on July 18, 2017. He was 92. Mr. Calhoun was born on May 5, 1925 in Laurinburg, NC to his parents, William Calhoun and Mary McNeill Calhoun. He was the youngest of four children, and his siblings (Margaret, John William, and Lois) predeceased him.



Mr. Calhoun served in the US Airforce from 1943 to 1945, and he fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, he attended North Carolina State University, where he graduated with a degree in Textile Engineering in 1951. I 1956, he and his first wife, Susie, moved to Florida where he worked as an engineer for Honeywell. He retired from Honeywell in 1984 to open his own coin store.



Mr. Calhoun married his second wife, Alice Marie Coffey, on October 7, 1989. He was married to her until her death in 1992. While he had no biological children of his own, he inherited a “ready-made family” when he married Marie. He devoted his remaining years to his inherited family.



Mr. Calhoun was an avid coin collector and dealer. He was a lifetime member of Florida United Numismatists (FUN), and he held various leadership positions in the Clearwater Coin Club, Largo Coin Club, and Tampa Coin Club. He was also a longtime member of Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where he was an Elder Emeritus.



Mr. Calhoun is survived by his stepdaughters, Kathy Heller and Wendy Peterson, his stepson, Kenneth Peterson, and two grandchildren, Ian Peterson and Casey Peterson. He will be buried in a private ceremony. A Memorial Service will take place on July 30, 2017 at 11:30am at Central Christian Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Frank’s life.
