COLUMBIA – A Mass of Christian Burial for Francis L. Parker, 94, will be celebrated Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Commendation and Farewell Prayers in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 with visitation following until 7:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. Parker died Saturday, September 16, 2017. Born in Columbia on February 21, 1923, he was a son of the late James O. Parker, Sr. and Mary Fleming Parker. He was predeceased by his wife, Lenna Demates Parker.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister to shut-ins for St. Joseph's. He was a member of The Settlers Club, St. Joseph's Senior Center, The Shepherd Center and the Providence Hospital Auxiliary, where he volunteered since 1986.

Mr. Parker honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in WWII, stationed in Europe. He worked with Southern Railway and Atlantic Coastline for many years until the Columbia office was closed. He retired from Unijax and he and his wife spent many happy years volunteering and traveling together.

He is survived by nieces, Betty Lewis and Mary Margaret Parker of Savannah, Ga.; nephews, Hayes Patterson of Charleston, SC, Joe Parker of Dallas, TX, Larry Parker of Albany, NY, Gregory M. Sox of Columbia, Christopher M. Sox of West Columbia, Sid Roberts of High Point, NC, Jim Roberts of Ocean Isle, NC, Jack Parker of West Columbia; niece, Joanna Rowe of Elgin, SC; sister-in-law, Mary D. Sox; good friend and wonderful neighbor, Elizabeth Bonnewell; and his constant companion, Kay-Kay.

Mr. Parker was predeceased by brothers, James O. Parker, Jr., John F. Parker, Clarence B. Parker, Sr.; sisters, Mary P. Roberts and Margaret "Billie" Patterson.
