Frank Samuel Dean, Sr. - ‘Sam’

Frank Sr., known as ‘Sam’, was the fourth of seven children born to the late Frank Edwin Dean and Penda Edgecombe Dean in Homestead (Modello), Florida on November 01, 1929. Frank was baptized and confirmed at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church and attended George Washington Carver High School in Coconut Grove, FL, graduating in 1949. He is preceded in death by his siblings: James, Aramintha, Miriam, John, and Annie.

After attending two years of study at Florida A&M University, Frank enlisted into the United States Army on March 22, 1951. While stationed at Camp Leroy Johnson, New Orleans, LA, Frank met Myrlyn Lucille McLean. In military fashion, Frank introduced himself to her as ‘Dean’. He and Myrlyn soon married on January 06, 1954 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA. and had seven children together. Myrlyn was a dutiful Army wife and loving mother who ‘kept the home fires burning’, enabling Frank to focus on his military duty and career. She called him ‘Dean’ for the rest of their 39 years of marriage.

Frank was a professional career soldier and retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer, (CW2), on July 31, 1979. After serving throughout the USA, Korea, Germany, Vietnam and other locations, Frank and Myrlyn settled in Homestead, FL. Following military retirement, Frank worked several years as an aircraft maintenance and logistics supervisor in Miami, FL. He entered full retirement in 1994.

Prior to his long-term illness, Frank was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Homestead, FL, as well as, as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very giving of his time and resources; and quietly assisted many in the church and local community. Frank looked for the resurrection of life and eternal salvation, freely offered to us, by the Lord Jesus Christ.

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Frank Samuel Dean, Sr., U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away quietly into the eternal care of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at the Lake Nona VA Hospital, Orlando, FL., surrounded by family. The sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick was administered by US Marine Chaplain, Father McCord.
