Freda Yovene Samsill, 92, passed away in Goodyear on November 27, 2017 after fighting hard to recover from a stroke. Born February 21, 1925 in Seminole, Oklahoma to mother Effie Yetta Rose-Chastain and father Edward Everett Chastain. Freda lived a beautiful life full of love and adventure. After losing her father at the age of 5, she moved with her mother and sister to Arizona in 1938. Here she met and fell in love with her husband, who preceded her in death, J.E. "Slick" Samsill. They were married on June 2, 1942. Together, they raised 6 wonderful children, Ann Brim married to Ted Brim, the late Carol Grimmett married to Don Grimmett, Bobbi Culp married to Allen Culp, Darleen Payne married to Brett Payne, John Samsill married to Susie Samsill, and Andy Samsill. During her time in Arizona, Freda enjoyed working at Motorola as well as a daycare in Mayor, Arizona. She was loved by the children and their families immensely. Although she loved her jobs, Freda's greatest joy in life was her family. She taught her children, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren what it truly means to respect others and value the family they were given. She is preceded in death by her mother Effie Chastain, father Edward Chastain, 5 sisters, 4 brothers, husband Slick Samsill, and daughter Carol Grimmett. She is survived by her children Ann Brim (Ted), Darleen Payne (Brett), John Samsill (Susie), and Andy Samsill, as well as all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a spunky, sassy, loving person who will be missed dearly.

Services will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home on Saturday, December 2, 2017, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM followed by funeral service at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona.
