Fredric William Ellsworth, 93 died peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 in his home knowing he was loved. He was born in St. Mary's, PA on February 17, 1924, the son of Fredric W. (Sr.) and Marthadel (Smith) Ellsworth.

Fred (known as Bill in his early years) grew up in Western Pennsylvania with his parents, two younger sisters, Virginia Daniel, and Sydney Nicklas and extended family. He made many friends with whom he maintained life-long friendships. His easy way of engaging and cultivating friends was a hallmark of his life that began in his early years and continued throughout his life. He attended Penn State where he became a Delta Chi brother. He left college to volunteer for the US Navy training as a fighter pilot, with WWII ending just as he completed his training. He returned to Penn State where he completed his degree in chemical engineering. He married his college sweetheart, Freddy Dixon, on August 24, 1947 and they graduated together from Penn State in 1948.

Fred and Freddy started their family and career in the graphite industry in St. Mary's and when given a promotional opportunity, he moved his family including four children to Keene. He always said that he could have chosen to live anywhere in New England and he made the right decision to choose Keene. The family lived happily at 28 Hurricane Road where Fred and Freddy revived the 200-year old home and filled it with family, friends, pets, and great merriment. They also added their fifth child and best surprise ever, Scott.

Fred was a family man and outdoorsman his entire life; every season called him outdoors to hike, ski, swim, sail, fish, hunt, play golf taking any and all his family with him. When horses became his children's passion, he embraced that too; Fred and Freddy took some happy rides. Following her death in 1990, he continued his adventures into the US wilderness continuing to introduce a love of the outdoors to the next generations of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It may actually have become part of the family's DNA.

In addition to his sisters, Virginia Daniel and Sydney Nicklas, and brother-in-law, Richard Nicklas, Fred is survived by his five children and their spouses, Sherry and Rick Luciano of Stowe, ME, Toni Ellsworth and Eli Cinq-Mars of Sullivan, Carl and Jane Ellsworth of Keene, Steven and Audrey Ellsworth of Anchorage, AK, and Scott and Susan Ellsworth of Swanzey; fourteen grandchildren, Christian Donatelli, Amy Saunders, Bill Ellsworth, Kari Donatelli, Emily Latham, Corinne Rowe, Eli Ellsworth, Travis Ellsworth, Keegan Ellsworth, Hannah Ellsworth, Max Cinq-Mars, Dana Cinq-Mars, James Luciano, and Colin Ellsworth several of their spouses; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
