Fredrick Earl Walters passed from this life and received his new avatar May 24, 2017, at the age of 77. Originally from Jones Co., Mississippi, Fred was a resident of Huntsville, Alabama for over 50 years. A retired engineer, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He worked for various companies in north Alabama including Brown Engineering, Sperry, Chrysler, Northrop Grumman, McDonnell Douglas, and EDM. He worked mainly in the defense and space industries, including working on the Apollo Program and the U.S. Space Shuttle Program, for which he received a commendation for his work. His participation in the space program is memorialized at Space View Park in Titusville, FL.



Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia (Judi) Bragg Walters, daughter, Sharon Alesia Saunders, son, Jonathan Paul Walters (Lyala Thompson Walters), one grandchild, Eyn Cain Ross, two brothers, Ronald E. Walters Sr. and Thomas Daniel Walters, and two sisters, Martha Faye Langley and Sherryl Kay Hayes. He is preceded in death by his father, William Wade Walters, mother, Myrl Ates Walters, brother, (Bill) William Wade Walters Jr., and sister, Anita Louise Judd.
