Born in Richmond, CA to the late Jerome and Bonita (Neasham) Klivans, his love for music started as a young child while residing in the San Francisco East Bay, where he graduated from Ignacio Valley High School as a member of the "Class of 1970". He went on to further his education over the years to finally obtain his Master's Degree from Chico State College.

Gary began a career right out of high school in the entertainment business performing throughout the Bay Area and developing a devoted fan following. In 1998, after graduating from Chico State, he took a job with the Plumas Unified School District as Portola's Music Teacher sharing his talents with the youth of the area from grade school to high school. He will be fondly remembered in the community as the leader of the Band, Jazz Band, Show Choir, and Drama as well as bringing his excitement to the schools Music programs until his retirement.

Outside of Music, Gary had a great love for the ocean and the serenity it brought to him. Gary also loved sitting on his deck with his puppies' enjoying the view of his beloved Sierra Valley.

In his untimely passing he leaves his loving wife of almost 15 years; Susan of Portola, CA, sister; Suzanne Roxon of Quincy, CA, step daughter; Alisa Wilcox and her husband Dwayne and their children; Joshua and Caleb all of Loomis, CA.
