Gene Herman Oberly, 92, passed away on December 22, 2017. Gene was born on April 27, 1925 in Palisade, Colorado. His wife, Audrea Liff Oberly, passed away on May 1, 2008. Gene carried on bravely after the death of his wife, finding great comfort in the loving care and cheerful company of his daughter, Ann Dutcher.

Gene worked as a professor at Cornell University for over 30 years before retiring. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the globe with his wife, and spending time with his family. Gene loved to fish and working in his woodshop, fixing or creating just about anything. Gene loved children and loved his family wholeheartedly. Gene will be remembered for his gentle and kind spirit, his lighthearted sense of humor, and his twinkling blue eyes.

Survivors include his daughter Ann, and son-in-law, Roger; grandchildren; Jennifer (Shawn) Dickmyer, Brian (Lisa) Dutcher, and Michael Dutcher; four great grandchildren, Benjamin and Brooke Dickmyer, and Nathan and Addison Dutcher, sisters Shirley Shelton and Leona Gardner; and many loved nieces and nephews and cousins. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Audrea; brother Jack Oberly, sisters Maxine Sorter and Thelma Gardner, and grandson Timothy Dutcher. Heartfelt thanks and gratitude are given to the caring staff at Serenades of Longwood, and VITAS Healthcare.

Services will be graveside at All Faith's Memorial Park in Casselberry, FL on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
