KUHL, Gene M., 80, of Tampa, passed away on April 18, 2017. He was born in Norfolk, Nebraska. In 1953, he entered the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Fleet. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he married the former Paula Wells. After moving to Melbourne, Florida, he graduated from Rollins College obtaining a B.S. in Mathematics and program management. He worked for RCA as a sub-contractor for NASA during the early space programs. He continued his career in development of communications systems including major networking and security systems. At the end of his career, he retired from Hillsborough County as a Systems Analyst. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and reading. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran faith and served in many capacities at several different congregations. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Paula, his sons; William (Freda) of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Robert Kuhl of Ripley, West Virginia, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 14920 Hutchison Road, Tampa, FL 33625 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
