Gennarrino James Saveriano, 95, died peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital on December 11, 2017 after suffering in recent years from age related dementia. His life will be celebrated at 2 PM, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with Reverend Lee Moses officiating. Friends and family are welcome to greet one another after the service at the church and conclude services, with inurnment accompanied by military honors, at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Jim was born September 28, 1922 in Paterson, NJ to the late Joseph and Josephine Fuduli Saveriano and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ as the salutatorian of his class. He served in the US Air Force during WWII as a pilot. His extensive career in business started with ITT Defense Communications Division where he rose to Vice President and was then appointed to President of ITT Grinnell Industrial Piping. He consolidated the company's operations in Kernersville, and grew the business many times its original size. He remained with ITT until he accepted a position as President of Cornell & Underhill, another pipe fabricator.
Jim and his first wife, Margaret Burge Saveriano, founded the first accredited nursery school in New Jersey. They expanded the school in Saddle Brook, NJ to a chain of schools under the Country Day School name and founded a corporation to manage the financial aspects of the school and other businesses. After the death of Margaret, he married Rita Stephenson Tally and celebrated 12 years together. They traveled extensively together, including multiple trips to Israel. At First Christian Church they enjoyed serving the Lord by visiting people in need of congregational care and assisted in weekly preparation of the sanctuary for Sunday service.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter, Toni and her husband, Steve; granddaughter, Nicole; grandson, Erik and wife, Rebecca; siblings, Lucille, Raymond, Ennio, MaryAnn, Anne, and Louise; and a large and loving extended family.
