BESBEKOS, DR. GEORGE A., Rear Admiral, Dental Corps. U.S.N., Retired, died January 2, 2017.

Dr. Besbekos was born December 2, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. He was graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in 1947, and entered the Navy as a dental officer in August 1947. He served for 31 years in a variety of duty assignments, including duty aboard USS ORION (AS-18), USS MACON (CA-130) and USS SARATOGA (CVA-60). In addition to various duty assignments ashore, he was a graduate of the General Postgraduate Course, U.S. Naval Dental School, Bethesda, MD and the Naval War College. He was selected to the rank of Rear Admiral in 1974 and retired in 1978. Among his awards in recognition of his service, he was awarded the Meritorious Service medal and the Legion of Merit.

Upon his retirement he moved to Central Florida in Longwood, FL. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Rita. He is survived by his son John Besbekos and wife Lynne of Sacramento, CA, daughter Rebecca Winters and husband Michael of Tampa, FL, Daughter Kathryn Ann Besbekos of Tallahassee, FL, brother Spiro of Chicago, beloved sister- in-law Kathryn Johnson of Atlanta and cherished companion Martha Poulos of Atlanta. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Maitland, FL and he was an avid golfer and member of Sweetwater Country Club.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1217 Trinity Woods Lane, Maitland, FL 32751. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1217 Trinity Woods Lane, Maitland, FL 32751-3158.
