George A. Hewitt ORANGE- George A. Hewitt, 85, of 50 Red Brook Lane, died late Friday evening, December 24, 2010 at Baldwinville Nursing Home, following an illness. Born on November 16, 1925 in Greenfield, he was a son of Charles K. and Jennie (Corey) Hewitt and grew up in Farley and graduated from Orange High in 1944. He later attended Bible college and took several Bible correspondence courses. George worked at several farms both locally and in Vermont and later as a security guard at the Erving Paper Mill. He led a strong Christian life. George leaves one daughter, Elizabeth Dean and her husband, Gary, and their children, Jason and Sabrina, as well as four great grandchildren, all of Rhode Island; a brother, Charles Hewitt of Greenfield; sisters, Helen Rogers and her husband, Robert, of Northfield, Esther Shea and her husband, Charles, of North Adams, and Eleanor Farnham and her husband, James, of Greenfield; as well as several nephews and nieces. George was predeceased by his wife Mary (Messenger), mother of Elizabeth, and two siblings, Marion Bassett and Donald Hewitt. There are no calling hours. A celebration of George's life will be held on Wednesday morning, December 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Red Brook Village Recreational Hall, 50 Red Brook Lane, Orange.
