It is with great sadness the family of George Walter Dunn-McNamara announces his passing after a brave fight with cancer on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the age of 79 years.

George was born in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY in 1938 to Margaret & Walter Dunn. Following their early passing, George and his two sisters were adopted by their aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. John McNamara of New York.

George had a love for all things New York and a very special love for the Brooklyn Dodgers and his beloved Ebbet's field. Those summer games started a lifelong love of sports that continued throughout his life. George was an outstanding athlete; he enjoyed playing football, baseball, bowling and golf. George shared his passion of football and baseball with his two young sons (John and David) and many other wonderful youths he coached, mentored and guided through life with sports.

Another of George's joys was reading, which he shared and nurtured in his daughter, Debra. George and Debra enjoyed many happy times sharing books, authors and trivia throughout the years. Spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever possible was also something that brought him immense joy.

However, George's greatest passion was the love of his life, wife Larine. Although this tribute is about George, it is nearly impossible to think of him without also thinking of his wonderful wife. Theirs was a love story of the ages.

At seventeen, George found his calling in life. He joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served for over 20 years, for of which during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. Along with the admiration and appreciation of his family, friends and fellow veterans, George was awarded numerous medals, ribbons and citations for his service to his country. Even after his retirement, George continued his support of veterans in countless ways.

The Air Force also gave George his lovely wife of 58 years, Larine Bishop. George met Larine, also and Air Force veteran, at Otis Air Force Base in Falmouth, Massachusetts and they were married in 1959. George and Larine were blessed with three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren during those 58 years.

Throughout George's life he impacted many people with his straight forward speaking, outstanding sense of humor, clever mind and his drive to continually learn and explore the world around him. Most importantly was his incredible code of honor and integrity, traits he lived his life by.

George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Larine, his children, David (DeNice) and Debra (Jim) White, his grandchildren James (Melissa), Brianna, Austin, Kadie, Dalton and Bridgitte and his great grandchildren Ayden and Stormy. George was preceded in death by his mother and father, Margaret and Walter Dunn, his adopted parents, John and Katherine McNamara, his sister Margaret "Peggy" McCall and his beloved son John.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Valley in George Walter McNamara's name.
