George W. File, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. George was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, on Monday, January 28, 1924, and lived in Texas all his life until 4-1/2 years ago when he moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to family during his later years.

George was the oldest son of George Washington and Kathryn File. He was the big brother to three younger sisters, Louise, Nellie Marie, and Marguerite. George graduated from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, with a degree in accounting. George served in the Army for two years as a TEC4 after graduating from college. He married his wife Dorothy Nell Garrison on September 6, 1954, and they spent the bulk of their married life in Houston, Texas. They had two sons, Richard and Kevin File. George worked as an accountant at Big Three Industries for approximately 40 years. They were members of the First Baptist Church Spring Branch where George actively served for many years.

George is remembered by family, friends, and caretakers for his tenacity, his love of sweets, his soft heart for animals, and always having a smile! George enjoyed hiking around the family ranch, woodworking, church activities, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.

George was predeceased by his wife Nell in 2008. He is survived by his youngest sister Marguerite, his son Richard and his wife Jacque, his son Kevin and his wife Betty, four grandchildren Brian, Leslie Vicary and her husband Taygen, Jason, and Kelsie Carico and her husband Tim, and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Jesse File.

Family and friends gathered at a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where funeral services were held in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3. Graveside services and interment followed at Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, also in Houston.
