Georgette Jane Billings, age 98, of Bloomington, died Thursday at the Monroe Hospital in Bloomington. Georgette was born the second of four children to Ferdinand and Jeanne (Diesbecq) Lambiotte on July 19, 1918 in Vincennes, Indiana. She graduated from St. Rose Academy in 1936 where she was a cheerleader. She married her late husband, Robert Billings on July 9, 1938 in Vincennes. Robert and Georgette had five children and were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Bloomington in 1988. Georgette had attended Vincennes Business College and participated in adult education classes at Indiana University-Bloomington. Georgette served as a secretary for Indiana University in Physical Plant Services and in the School of Music. Always an avid Indiana sports fan, she was especially loyal to the I.U. basketball and football programs and held season tickets for many years. She enjoyed music and had a musical heritage, as her mother was a classically trained pianist and her father a clarinetist. She particularly enjoyed opera and attended as many I.U. musical events as possible.
Georgette and Bob were members of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for over 25 years before joining St. Paul Catholic Center in 1967. She served as a Eucharist Minister for over 20 years before rejoining St. Charles in 2004. Georgette was a faithful member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 50 years and helped organize the local chapter. She was also a member of the Monday Bridge Club for over 50 years. Georgette and Bob enjoyed ballroom dancing for over 30 years and were often recognized for their grace and style on the dance floor. They won more than a few dance competitions over the years. She also loved to garden and attend to her flowers and many plants. She was a loving person and was attentive to any one needing her help, especially her family and friends. She befriended many I.U. students she encountered in the work place, the community, in church or as neighbors. She was a life-long volunteer and gave her time and effort freely to many worthy causes and organizations, including organizing the Catholic Youth Organization "Teens Against Polio" fund raising dances. Georgette was a past member of Lambda Chi Omega social sorority, Elk's Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Georgette is survived by her family whom she enjoyed immensely; her children, Dr. Ronald S. (Renate) Billings, DDS, of Rochester, NY, Mary Charlene (Norb) Svanascini, of Chicago, Iliinois, Dr. Charles (Aloma) Billings, DDS, of Bloomington and Karen Jeanne (Garry) Anderson, of Bloomington; one brother, Elmer Lambiotte, of Vincennes, ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Bob on December 25, 1989, Georgette was preceded in death by one son, Robert Anthony Billings, one infant grandson, Mark Anderson, one granddaughter, Lorraine Billings, one brother, Joseph Lambiotte and one sister, Mary Brocksmith.
A mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Robert Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Daughter s of Isabella or to St. Charles Catholic School.
