Georgina Mercedes DeMeza



Georgia was born September 19, 1927 in Camagüey Cuba, Georgia’s father Bolivar Agramonte moved Georgia and his wife Mercedes to New York City when she was 2 years old, and she lived there until she met and married Harry DeMeza, in 1952. Harry was a graduate from Georgia Tech, and Georgia graduated from the Metropolitan School of Nursing in New York, They started their family and made Atlanta their home. Georgia was a Registered Nurse at Crawford Long hospital for 30 years. She and Harry had three children, John Joseph, Karen Marie, and Mari Elaina. Georgia enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends; she also loved playing bridge with her girlfriends. Georgia chose her profession to a tee because she was a Nurse to everyone, her neighbors, her children, her friends, even the Brittney Club Pool, when there was an injury they called Georgia. She was a great cook; she arranged the flowers for the Sunday Mass every week during the early years of the Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Church for at least 20 years. She and her family were members of OLA since 1952. Georgia is survived by her husband of 64 years Harry A Demeza; her daughters, Karen Whitley, and Mari DeMez; her son-in law, Joe Whitley; sister-in-law, Virginia Agramonte; her niece, Wendy Foskey and her husband David Foskey; her sister-in-law, Frances DeMeza and Harry’s brother Paul DeMeza; nephews, Mark, David and Paul Kenneth DeMeza; her Goddaughter, Ann Hardcastle and Ann’s two sons, Alexander and Simon Royle.



The family will receive friends Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at H.M. Patterson & Son – Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00am. Georgia will be laid to rest following the Funeral Mass at Arlington Memorial Park.
