Gerald Duane "Coffee" Maxwell

Gerald Duane "Coffee" Maxwell, 83, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and formerly of Milan, Missouri, passed away, Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Mr. Maxwell was born March 3, 1930, in Washington, Iowa, to Stanley Duane and Mary Bertha (Shaw) Maxwell. On December 23, 1953, he married Bobbie Jean Sonnier, and to this marriage three children were born: Steven, Michael and Vickie. He later married Vera Reynolds. Survivors include: a daughter, Vickie and husband Tom Wilson of Bettendorf, Iowa; one son, Michael and wife Amy Maxwell of Bettendorf; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Garrett, Kyle Boultinghouse, Lindsey Zorg, Amber Maxwell and Jake Maxwell; 7 great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one son, Steven Maxwell in 2008; and a special friend Jane Law in 2004.

Coffee graduated from Milan High School, where he played football and was proud of his accomplishments. He served in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He then lived in Moline, Illinois and worked at Alcoa as a supervisor until 1983 when he retired and moved back to Milan. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and his bird dogs, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services were held 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri. Rev. Andrew Coon officiated. Music was provided by Jack Smith. Cremation followed the service and a private inurnment will be held at a later date at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Southeast of Milan.
