Rockwell City - Gerald "Gary" F. Chapman, 86, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Rockwell City with military rites by the Rockwell City Veterans Organization. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (TODAY) at Palmer-Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Joann Chapman of Rockwell City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Rose (Gardini) Chapman; and stepfather, Victor Ruthart.
Gerald Franklin Chapman was born October 10, 1931 in Lehigh and the family lived on a farm in Clarion. His father passed away in 1936. Gerald attended Lehigh schools and graduated in 1949. He then went on to Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge. Gerald served with the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 through 1954. In 1957, he married Joann M. Ellis at Corpus Christi Church and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He was employed with Gralnek Motors in Fort Dodge and Geo A. Hormel & Co. in Fort Dodge until his retirement in June of 1982. In 1989, the couple moved to Rockwell City. Gerald was a member of St. Francis Church and the American Legion.
Memorials may be left to family discretion.
