In Loving Memory of Gerd Lohmann; Born in Hamburg, Germany on September 2, 1923, Gerd Lohmann was educated as an optical engineer and later transitioned to mechanical engineering. He worked on optical character recognition systems, fine measurement instruments for NOAA balloon weather flights, and then satellite scan devices and fuzes for the Department of the Army at its renowned Harry Diamond Labs. He holds awards and research patents for his work.

As a young man he enjoyed swimming and sailing on the Alster in Hamburg, building his own radios, and restoring old watches. Later he became interested in repairing car engines and restoring optical devices. He then gravitated to photography and camera repair. Highly adept at taking mechanical devices apart and restoring those to mint condition, his services were in high demand among family and friends. He appreciated the humor behind a “Mr. Fix-It” drawing given to him by a neighbor. Friends, colleagues, and neighbors appreciated his dry wit and humor.

He passed into peace on May 9, 2017 at the age of 93 years and is greatly missed by his extended family in Germany, and especially by his daughter, Dr. Ursula Lohmann of Annapolis, Maryland.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland. Internment is private.
