Gertrude M. Hainey, call me TRUDY, 85, of Manchester, died peacefully March 1, 2017 at the Elliot Hospital. She was born in Manchester on January 2, 1932. The daughter of Francis and Frances (Kerr) Firn, was a longtime resident of Bedford and the Queen City. She was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester High School West. One of her first jobs out of high school was working for the CIA as a Stenographer in Washington D.C. Once returning to New Hampshire she was employed for many years as an Administrator on Duty at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Manchester.

She was a Granite State Ambassador with over 1,800 volunteer hours. Volunteering at the Manchester-Boston Airport Information Center and Visitors Center on Elm Street in Manchester. She was a proud member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), where you would find her helping raise money for their annual Alzheimer's Fundraiser. She also enjoyed attending the TECH group through the "New Hampshire Association for the Blind" now known as "Future In Sight". She was part of the Alley-Oops where you could find them keeping in shape while having many laughs. Trudy was an active member of the Londonderry Senior Center where she loved to participate in the Bone Builders class.

Trudy was known to start up a conversation with everyone she met and made them feel at home. She will be truly missed and keep in mind she wouldn't want you to mourn too long but to remember all the fun and laughs you had together. She loved the arts and was an avid painter and was known for her original painted Christmas cards.

Members of her family include her two sons David Kerr Hainey Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Manchester and Douglas Firn Hainey and his wife Jacalyn of Auburn, her daughter Laura Ann Hainey of Rochester, her three grandchildren Justin, Amanda and Crystal, a great-granddaughter McKenna Rose and her sister Patricia Olive of Florida along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Carlotta Miller, whom she loved dearly.

Visitation was held on Wednesday March 8th from 10:30 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd. in Bedford followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. An ice cream social gathering in the church reception hall followed the service. Urn burial will be at a later date at the Bedford Center Cemetery. The McHugh Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with her care.
