Gladys Emma Thompson Greene age 90 of Tampa Florida passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017 in her daughter's home. She was born to the late Walter Andrew Thompson and Ida Lorraine Peedin, on September 19, 1926.
Gladys attended Business College, she helped run her parents general store growing up in Johnson County North Carolina. She worked in various positions at Mo Judd Hosiery Company, Singleton Seafood Company as a Military Food quality control technician, banking and retail sales. She was President of her and her husband's successful business, The GTG Construction Company, and then became a full time home maker and caregiver. Gladys was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the most selfless, kindhearted, sweet, giving caring and strong woman. She was a Cub Scout den mother, avid team supporter of youth sports for her children and grandchildren, and loved to cook and do needle pointing for her family. She loved to bowl, visit with friends and have coffee. She was a long time member of Eastside Presbyterian Church in Tampa. She spent many hours on the phone with her grandson Gregory doing Bible studies which was one of her favorite things to do. She opened her home and arms to her daughter Teri and granddaughters Tia, Brittanie for over six years to help raise them, giving up countless unconditional love and hours.
Gladys spent over 20 years being caregiver to her husband James after he became ill, who were married and their love story continued for 62 years until the day he passed in 2008. He called her his "Living Angel". She put up a long hard battle to stay with us for so long especially in the last three years thanks to Hospice Care and her daughter Teri's care and medical help from granddaughter Tia Benitez at Teri's home in Seffner Florida.
She was preceded in death by husband, James F. Greene; grandson, Gregory A. Greene, II; and sister, Lorraine Martin.
Loving mother of Gregory (Virginia) Greene, Sr, Ronald (Heidi) Greene, and Teresa Haigler.
Cherished grandmother of Tia (Jerry) Benitez, Brittanie Fales, Tyler and Zackary Haigler, Amanda (Larry) Pearlman, Samantha, Jessica, and Adam (Heather) Greene.
Proud great-grandmother of Thomas and Tatiana Feliciano, Cali Wuestewald, Laila Benitez, Hayley Greene, Peyton, Maigen, and A.J. Pearlman.
She will be missed dearly and live in our hearts forever.
