Gordon L. Cole, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on May 4, 2017. Born on January 23, 1930, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Harry V. and Lillian M. (nee Kendig) Cole. A member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, where he was very active and a Sunday School Teacher; he proudly served his country in the Army, during the Korean War. He was a retired teacher from both Indiana Technical Institute and East Allen County Schools; was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. After retirement he volunteered at The Literacy Alliance for more than 25 years, where they established the Gordon L. Cole Outstanding Volunteer Award in his honor; he and his wife Helen also served on many mission trips with the NOMADS and North Conference Missions. He enjoyed and spent many hours working in his wood shop, clock and jewelry repair.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Cole; children, Lilli Ann (Gene) Parker, of Nashville, Tennessee, Joyce A. (Bruce) Clinger, of Bucyrus, Ohio, Bruce G. LeeAnn) Cole, of Spencerville and Jeffrey J. (Sherry) Cole, of Plainfield; brother, Charles (Millie) Cole, of Auburn; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 4pm, Monday, May 8, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 7715 Sunny Lane, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Inurnment will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
