Griffith L. Pickett, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 13, 2017. He was born in Kansas City, KS and served in the US Navy during WWII.Griff was an owner, along with his brothers, of United Sign Corporation, where he worked for 55 years prior to his retirement.During his time at United Sign, Griff was shop superintendent, sheet metal worker and tube bender (glass blower). Griff’s passion was flying. He had his private pilot’s license for over 50 years and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Edna.They traveled many places, most notably to Mexico, Canada and Alaska, in his small aircraft. Griff also enjoyed reading, spending time visiting with friends at the airport, playing with his dog and spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years in 2015, Edna Pickett; parents, Griffith H. Pickett, Ethel Pickett; siblings: Dorothy Mangum, Frances Amos, Lynn Gover, Larry Pickett, Mercedes Swendrowski, David Pickett, Marion Pickett, Rose Heninger; half brother, William Pickett and granddaughter, Ashley Anne Giesselman.Survivors include son Griffith R. (Janet) of Kansas City, MO; daughters Karen Giesselman (Carl) of Sonoita,AZ, and Ronda Richey (Bill) of Lee’s Summit, MO, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Thursday, May18, 2 pm at Floral Hills. Burial following. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 17, 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
