Mr. Harold Lee Dempsey, 101, of Cartersville, GA, a wonderful Christian man, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 surrounded by family. Mr. Dempsey was born to the late Charlie Norman Dempsey and Willie Dodd Dempsey of Kingston, GA, on April 22, 1916.
Mr. Dempsey enjoyed an active lifestyle right up until his final days. He was a long time member of the Retired Men's Group of Cartersville, and was still driving at 100 to church, McDonalds, and Bojangle's. Mr. Dempsey survived being born at home weighing two pounds in 1916, struck by lightening, being shot twice while hunting, cancer, and a heart attack. He was also a member of the Acworth Mason's Lodge for over 60 years. He retired from The Baptist Home Mission Board. He grew over 100 tomato plants every year and was known locally as "The Tomato Man". Mr. Dempsey was a long time member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charlie Norman Dempsey and Willie Dodd Dempsey, his wife of 70 years, Pauline Brock Dempsey; brother, Roger Dempsey.
He is survived by his daughter Pat Keys (Gary), Grandson, Britt Keys (Stephanie), great grandchildren; Austin Keys and Lily Keys.
Funeral Services for Mr. Dempsey will be held Monday, June 26, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Acworth Ga, at two o' clock in the afternoon. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Jim Chidister.
