Harold S. Pike Jr, 83 of Surry NH, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. He was born in Everett, MA on October 3, 1934; the son of the late Harold and Bertha Pike.

Mr. Pike graduated from Reading High School in 1952 and New England College in 1958. He worked for Raytheon in Hookset, NH before joining the Keene School System. He taught at Franklin and Symonds Schools, was the teaching principal at Lincoln School and Supervising Principal at Fuller and Roosevelt Schools. He taught a total of 30 years before retiring.

Mr. Pike, whose parents were from Newfoundland, Canada, enjoyed a nautical background. He spent several summers attending St. Andrews Community College in New Brunswick, Canada taking boat building and related nautical courses. Several of his fifth grade classes built 10 foot row boats as part of their classroom activities.these boats are still in use today.

He held lifelong memberships in the Green Mtn. Club, AYH, The Council for Secular Humanism and The American Humanist Association. He was also a former member of the NEA and the NHEA, the Surry Volunteer Fire Department and was a trustee of the Surry Reed Free Library. He had been active on the former Surry Conservation Committee, the Recreation Department, The Surry Players, and the Surry Water Department. He was a firm believer in Native People's rights and belonged and contributed too many organizations. Mr. and Mrs. Pike volunteered at State and National Parks both in Alaska and Arizona. They enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Following retirement, Harold spent a year at the Maine Maritime Museum Apprentice Shop (Percy & Small Shipyard) in Bath, Maine. HE participated in several Friendship Sloop races and the Maine Maritime Windjammer races. He and his wife sailed in several International Races between the U.S. and Canada held in the Bay of Fundy.

Mr. Pike is predeceased by a step daughter, Pamela Foley in 2010.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Margaret "Peg" Pike of Surry; sons, Matthew Pike of Orlando, FL, Robert Pike of Ocala, FL and Harold Pike III of Tamworth, NH; step-children, Kathleen Hurley of Phoenix, AZ and James Hurley of Keene.; three grandchildren, Harold S. Pike IV, Heather Scott Pike and Hannah Marie Pike; five step-grandchildren, Steve and Zachary Moren, Michael Foley, Jeremy Hurley and Megan Foley; as well as four great grandchildren, Aryssa and Ashley LeBaron, and Willow and Logan Foley.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 am at Village Cemetery, Village Road, Surry, NH. The FLETCHER FUNERAL HOME, KEENE, NH is assisting the family with arrangements.
