Harold Van Buren Womack, 81, of Marietta, passed away peacefully Thursday May 4, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children.
Harold was born and raised on a family farm in Acworth, GA., graduating from Acworth High School in 1952. He worked in Experimental Engineering at Lockheed Martin until his retirement in 1990. From 1958-1960, Harold served in the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division deployed in Frankfurt, Germany. Shortly after returning home, he met and married Acworth native Brenda Sue McPherson. They were married for 54 years and had two daughters and seven grandchildren.
Harold spent countless hours coaching his daughters' softball and basketball teams, teaching not only sports, but lessons about teamwork, hard work and integrity that his children & their teammates would use throughout their lives.
Harold had a strong faith that grew deeper and richer in his later years as he spent many hours reading his Bible and even more in prayer for his family, friends, and country. He was a steadfast friend and neighbor, a fierce competitor, a generous dependable husband, father, and a devoted servant of his Lord. He will be greatly missed, but we praise God for the assurance that he is resting in his arms.
Harold is survived by his wife Brenda McPherson Womack; daughters - Stephanie (David) Coston, and Vanessa Womack; grandchildren - Alec (Annick) Coston, Taylor Coston, Chandler Coston, Tate Coston, Lily Coston, Luke Mersberger, and Ruby Womack; sisters - Anne Julian (Winston) Qualls, and Jo Ellen (Allen) Mobley. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
