Harris Taylor peacefully passed away at his home in Carmel at the age of 95. He was two days shy of his 96th birthday. Harris was born in Walla Walla, Washington in 1921. He was one of four brothers, two of which also followed his footsteps into public education. Harris graduated from Eastern Washington College with a degree in education. He played football and ran track during all four years of his studies. He also received his Masters Degree from the same institution. Harris served during WWII. In 1953 he earned his Doctorate in education at Stanford University. Harris taught and coached in the state of Washington. He held a principalship in Portland, Oregon before moving his family to California. He worked as an administrator in La Mesa and Carlsbad California, as well teaching at Claremont Graduate School. Harris also worked as an educational consultant to King Hussein in Jordan. His final posting was as Superintendent of the Carmel Unified School District between 1966 and 1978. Harris also worked briefly for Robert Louis Stevenson school before retiring. He leaves behind his wife of 75 years, Franc Taylor, his two sons Mark (Ginger) and Steve (Linda) Taylor, and two grandsons Joshua and Devon Taylor. Harris touched many people's lives over his career as an educator and coach. He will be dearly missed by many. At his request, there will be no service.
